Become a Little Volunteer

Fostering is a very rewarding experience and very much like being a “normal” pet owner, but only short term! However, it does come with its challenges and you must be sure that you are committed before choosing to foster. The more carers we have, the more lives we can save. Without our volunteers we would be forced to turn away many abandoned, stray or orphaned pets.

Animals may require fosters for many reasons, including:

  • Too young to be adopted

  • Not ready or waiting to be adopted

  • They may be pregnant or unwell and need a place to recover

  • They have been neglected and need special care

A foster carer’s job is to temporarily share their living space with a rescue animal and to provide them with basic care and love. Important roles may include feeding, cleaning, medicating, grooming, training and socialising your foster animal, with a focus on readying them for rehoming.

The amount of time an animal will need to be in foster care may depend on a variety of factors including age, health status, temperament, etc. Some of the animals come to us needing more care than others. Others may just need a home to stay while they are waiting to receive veterinary treatment or for the right family to come along for adoption.

We provide you with food, bedding, litter and everything else that you will need to care for your foster animal, including any veterinary treatment that they may require. However, anything that you may want to contribute for your foster animal is optional and helps to ease our burden and the costs that can otherwise be directed towards critical supplies, medications and vet care.

Foster care gives a rescue animal a chance at life, and an opportunity to experience genuine love that they may not have had ever before. It can be a very rewarding experience to be able to see your foster animal grow, develop and flourish with you.

Besides foster care, we are also in need of helping hands for transportation, events, fundraising and more.

Please be mindful that we are a small team of volunteers with family and work commitments outside of our rescue responsibilities. We are regularly inundated with enquiries and therefore only capable of contacting shortlisted applicants. Thank you for choosing rescue!
